About LCA

Anthropogenic (human-made) global warming must be addressed by local action. Through LCA we are mapping and showcasing local projects in Japan, which:

  1. Mitigate risks of global warming,
  2. Are initiated by local communities, and

  3. Represent pioneering initiatives in the respective municipalities.

LCA is much more than just an interactive map. It is a multilingual platform for sharing ideas and exchanging knowledge. Our aim is to support local engagement by increasing the international visibility of projects and by facilitating direct exchange among local actors – such as municipalities, citizens, and local businesses.

The information provided through LCA is based on the input by registered members. It is reviewed and edited by the LCA-board, which consists of representatives from initiators and partners.

LCA is a joined initiative by the German Institute for Japanese Studies, Tokyo (DIJ) and the German Embassy in Tokyo. The website is operated by DIJ. LCA received financial support from the Energy- and Climate Fund of the German Federal Government.

The following partners cooperate with LCA (in alphabetic order):

  • Christian Dimmer (Waseda University)
  • Hasekura 2.0
  • Noriko Sakamoto
  • Conrad Kunze (Helmholtz-Centre for Environmental Research - UFZ)

You can support LCA through:

  1. Contributing information on local climate action project as a registered member,
  2. By letting others know about LCA and our activities,
  3. Or simply by using the map and getting informed about registered projects.
